Threads of an Eternal Past
For this project, we are requiring a funding of around 2k€. Part of the funding is going into paying the production for the shoot such as location, catering and transportation. We are going to be shooting the film over a period of three days only, in Paris. The most important thing we need to afford is the location over the three days.Log line: A father goes through the psychological struggle of replacing his dead son by a clone.Pitch: Joel, 43, lives alone with his son Mikael, 16. The story is narrated through Joel’s eyes as we are taken through different moments of his life with his son. Mikael has had a genetically carried disease that eventually kills him the same way it killed his mother many years ago. We are then introduced to Barney, a mysterious man that acts as a counsellor to Joel and is supposed to help him transition to the new life he would have living with a clone of his dead son. The issue Barney is facing is that he was a very old friend of Joel’s and for his friend’s sake he does not want him to carry through this procedure because of all the evident ethical questions at stake here. Even though he is the counsellor and it is his job to find clients to test new clones, he does not want Joel to do it because it will not replace his son. Joel obviously doesn’t care or listen, he doesn’t want to know what is at stake he needs his son back. Eventually, after a few days of testing, he understands that this kind of love is not something that can be artificially created. He eventually decides to terminate the clone but he is faced with a new problem: having to lose his son a second time. What’s the film about: This story explores the spectrum of human emotions and applying them to new concepts such as love to a machine, or love from a machine, the issues raised from this ethical dilemma and Barney’s position: should he treat Joel as a friend or as a client? The outcome would be different in both cases. I want to tell this story because I want to experiment storytelling told through human emotions, despite the story not necessarily having all humans characters. I believe that the basis of all stories is based on conveying emotions to the audience. This project is my very first and it is the most important one for me today. If all goes well, we are planning to submit this project to multiple festivals around France, allowing it to be seen by as many people as possible, and possibly take off in the film industry. We are aiming as high as possible with this project.
