While travelling through South America by car we crossed the border of Ecuador and Colombia in Rumichaca. There we saw so many Venezuelan refugees in such great misery without the help they needed, that we decided to stay. We started this NGO, and have been working together succesfully with local and international organizations to give them the help they need. Help fund a cochlear implant surgery for 18 month old baby

Raising a funding campaign as I came across the story of Marc Alexander, 18 month baby boy born in Haiti and diagnosed bilaterally deaf (both ears). Long story short, Haiti does not have the proper medical infrastructure and the government support to help this little boy get a cochlear implant surgery that would give him the ability to hear and speak. The longer he waits to get the implant, the more irreversible speech and development delay will occur. This would cost USD 30,000 including a trip abroad to get the surgery done (I myself have done research for my daughter and no kidding, it really cost that much). I spoke to his mother who didn't know what to do and who to turn to, and I felt the need to help them. As a French national and a Hong Kong resident , and as a mother of a 6 months deaf baby myself, my family is fortunate enough to have access to the best-in-class health support, excellent medical care and infrastructure ...and this is all (or almost) FREE!! We tend to forget how lucky we are. We are Kamaïa and Darlin Jeanty, parents of 18 months old Marc-Alexandre. We live Haiti, one of the most under-developed country in the world.We suspected the deafness of our son when he was 2 months and a half, as he was not reacting to sound. Due to lack of medical resources and infrastructure in Haiti, we were unable to obtain a diagnosis right away. When Marc-Alexandre turned 12 months old, we had been recommended to have him checked out in Republic Dominican. Without a second of hesitation, we took out all of our savings and bought a flight for the 3 of us to go meet an ENT specialist there. The results were devastating: Marc-Alexandre was diagnosed bilaterally deaf (both ears). We were not sure what to do or where to turn. We do not know if he would ever say, "I love you Mommy and Daddy." We have prayed for a happy, productive life for Marc-Alexander, and we want him to go to school and someday graduate from university to pursue a career and a life that he chooses.The ENT was adamant that our son needed cochlear implants; Implanting Marc will give him access to sound which will provide him with the only chance of age-appropriate speech and language development. This will provide him the opportunity to a better education and independent employment as an adult in the future. If not implanted, it may lead to permanent changes in the auditory cortex in the brain which may make it impossible to benefit from a cochlear implant or any form of hearing restoration surgery in the future. The cochlear implant bypasses the damaged portions of the ear and directly stimulates the auditory nerve. The signals are generated by the implant and are sent passed the auditory nerve to the brain where the signals are recognised as sounds. However, the cochlear implants will cost USD$30,000 as we do not have insurance and there is no government social subsidy or help of any kind. We are raising money to pay for medical expenses including surgery, cochlear implant device, and a trip abroad for the surgery.Marc is growing up and as his parents; we know we have to do something. The only future for our son is to hear with cochlear implants. Just like everyone else, we want to give him the best possible future there is.Life is so precious and this innocent boy who deserves the right to live normally. Marco & Thijs - Bike4Kika

All, This summer (4th August) myself and my son Thijs will be biking ~1000km from Oberrieden, Switzerland to Schagen, the Netherlands. We will be following the river Rhein all the way to the Netherlands. We aim to complete the bike tour in 10 days. We are doing this to raise money for child cancer research. Reason we are doing this is that a little over a year Thijs’s grandad passed away from cancer. I also had cancer and was lucky enough to survive, as such we want to do what we can to help other people that have cancer. Every little bit helps. All the money donated will go 100% to KIKA, which has been set up in 2002 to fund innovative research for Child Cancer. Treatments have significantly improved but still 1 in 4 children, diagnosed with cancer dies. The charity’s aim is to increase the survival rate of children suffering from cancer from 75% to 95% by 2025. They aim to do this by funding scientific research, improving treatments (less pain, higher cure rate and improved quality of life), concentrating expertise and treatment for children to accelerate experience. Support for Aelfin Michel

Aelfin Michel - Critical Condition - Hua Hin, ThailandSadly, on December 31st, Aelfin tragically crashed on a motorbike causing him to suffer severe head and face trauma. Aelfin is currently in ICU under 24 hours medical care and constant support. When Aelfin arrived in emergency he required immediate surgery to remove bleeding on the brain and had part of his skull removed, which will need to be replaced with titanium. His jaw and teeth were severely smashed which will require surgery, as well as other serious facial and head injuries. Unfortunately this is a very critical situation. Due to the severity of his head injuries he has had many operations to date and requires many more, plus 24 hours support and months (if not years) of therapy. The latter is not yet known as we are currently taking it day by day, knowing that each day is a miracle. Aelfin is a fighter and at every set back he is fighting to stay here with us. For those that know him will know his determination and stubbornness. This trait is shining through in his fight for his life. This gives us hope. Holding onto this hope and knowing that Aelfin will keep on fighting, there is a long and very expensive battle ahead of us. He requires many more surgeries, and unfortunately at this stage, we are unsure of the extent of damage and rehabilitation required. We urgently ask all of you to help support Aelfin and his mother, Emma, with the extensive ongoing medical costs and medical care that Aelfin needs now and for the coming months. Some had a stop over, some came to settle down in the region, some just didn’t know what to do next...Each family with their story and their pain. What we try to do is to give them some days of reassurance, feeling of safety and welcome, food and necessary products, guide them through the process. To make them feel OK as much as possible. In the beginning many of you asked me: “how can I help you?” I said “it’s fine! We manage!”But this war is lasting longer than expected, and our resources are running out. But how to say NO to families who flee their homeland with nothing but a small bag?We want to share our house, give proper food, pick up people from the train stations at night, provide clothes and necessary hygiene products, gift books and toys to kids... Un casque coûte 300€ et ces derniers sont disponibles en Pologne.Sacha est ruiné, et n'a pas fui son pays afin d'aider ses citoyens et de se battre. Nous sommes tous confrontés au quotidien par de nombreuses cagnottes mais je vous garantis une chose : celle ci lui sera d'une grande aide et sera utilisé dès fin de cette semaine pour acheter, 1, 2 ou 10 casques!Je suivrais de près l'arrivée des fonds et me charge de la commande alors svp participez de 1, 2, 5€ pour le soutenir et aider à dispenser des soins dans un pays qui est en train de tenir face à de terribles attrocitées. Et malgré les dernières réformes engagées, l'espoir de revoir des touristes est reporté (au mieux) pour la prochaine saison, c'est à dire à partir de novembre prochain.Comme vous pouvez vous en douter, ces 2 dernières années de covid n'ont pas été sans incidence sur mes projets et mes finances (comme pour beaucoup d'entre nous). Plus de touristes = plus de clients = plus d'argent.J'ai dû mettre de côté la plupart de mes idées (salon de massage, cabanes flottantes, activités aquatiques) et mes projets sont à l'arrêt. Y compris celui qui me tenait le plus à cœur, finir la construction de ma maison (j'en suis environ à 80%).Mais cela ne m'a pas empêcher de continuer à y croire et de tout faire pour rebondir. D'abord, j'ai construit mon premier pont suspendu pour relier la berge a mon île (presque seul) en espérant que le covid ne soit qu'un court épisode.Réalisant que ce ne fût pas le cas, associé avec un ami proche qui a avançé tous les fonds pendant que je m'occupais de la réalisation, nous avons construit un second pont. Beaucoup plus haut et plus long, avec une tyrolienne juste au dessus de la chute d'eau de Tad Lo. Une activité qui devait dégager de quoi vivre et manger en attendant un retour à la « normale ». Malheureusement, ce projet qui s'adressait à une clientèle locale n'a pu ouvrir que 2 jours pour cause de confinement généralisé et n'a donc jamais eu l'occasion de dégager une seule rentrée d'argent.Loin de me laisser abattre, cette fois c'est avec Emeric (mon frangin) que nous nous sommes lancés dans l'aventure du laser game à Paksé. Après plus d'un an d'efforts, de travaux et d'attente pour pouvoir ouvrir, nous accueillons enfin nos premiers clients ! Mais bon, pendant ces 2 ou 3 prochaines années, la grosse majorité de nos bénéfices servira à rembourser nos gentils créanciers et à payer nos loyers...A cela s'ajoute les 2 dernières saisons des pluies qui n'ont pas été tendres et qui ne sont pas totalement innocentes dans la démarche que j'entreprends aujourd'hui. Car malheureusement, quand on a un toit en paille avec un plancher en bois et qu'on n'a plus les moyens de l'entretenir, les dégâts se multiplient vite car la nature ne pardonne pas. Comme indiqué plus haut, les premiers touristes ne risquent pas d'arriver avant novembre. C'est à dire, après une troisième saison des pluies, qui va encore empirer l'état actuel des choses...Et recevoir des clients dans une maison en état de délabrement n'est pas l'idéal pour redémarrer une nouvelle saison sur de bonnes bases.Grâce aux soutiens de certains d'entre vous et à celui des commerçants du village, j'ai réussi à faire vivre Fandee Island et tout ceux qui y habitent jusqu'ici. And despite the latest reforms, the hope of seeing tourists again is postponed (at best) for the next season, so around next November.As you can imagine, these last 2 years of covid have not been without impact on my projects and my finances (like many of us). No tourists = no guests = no money.I had to put aside most of my ideas (massage parlour, floating huts, aquatic activities) and my projects have come to a halt. Including the one that was closest to my heart, finishing the construction of my house (I'm about 80% complete).But that didn't stop me from continuing to believe in it and doing everything to bounce back.First, I built a suspension bridge (almost alone) to connect the shore to my island, hoping that covid was only a short episode.Realizing that was not the case, together with a close friend who advanced all the funds while I took care of the realization, we built a second bridge. Much higher and longer, with a zip line just above Tad Lo waterfall. An activity that had to free up enough to live and eat while waiting for a return to "normal".Unfortunately, this project, which was aimed at a local clientele, was only able to open for 2 days due to general lockdown and therefore never had the opportunity to generate a single cash flow.Far from letting me down, this time it was with Emeric (my brother) that we embarked on the adventure of laser tag in Pakse. After more than a year of effort, work and waiting to be able to open, we finally welcome our first customers!But hey, for the next 2 or 3 years, the vast majority of our profits will be used to repay our kind creditors and pay our rents...Then, the two lasts rainy seasons were not very kind and they are not totally innocent in the process that I am undertaking today. Among these possessions, most significantly, was the laptop we used to record and store our own recordings - recordings which we had spent many, many hours working on. We were in fact nearing the point at which we were ready to start sharing these with you. Unfortunately, these files were not backed up (learnt our lesson the hard way there didn’t we), and so we have lost a huge amount of the progress we made over the past few months towards better music. Also stolen was George's Eastman electric guitar which is another heartbreaker for us; it cost around £950 and added a distinct element to our sound. We also lost 2 SONOS speakers - we use these to listen back to our recordings and ideas in optimum sound quality, to constantly evaluate what we're doing. Our request to you therefore, whoever you are, is to donate if you feel inclined to do so, to our crowdfunder so that we can overcome this setback. Given the current worldwide crisis that we are all facing, we expect very little sympathy from anyone. We know that we are still incredibly lucky to live in a country that is more financially stable and generally safer than most, and that we are all in good health. Como sabréis por las noticias, ante la escasez de mascarillas y gafas protectoras, hay grupos de « makers » (gente anónima con impresoras 3D en casa) que fabrican máscaras de protección para médicos, enfermeros y personal no sanitario que trabaja en hospitales, residencias de ancianos, centros de salud etc. Tan sólo un grupo en la sierra Norte de Madrid está haciendo más de 2.000 unidades al día! Protección civil y taxistas voluntarios se encargan de distribuirlas. Mis padres fueron a donar cajas de plásticos transparentes que se utilizan en los despachos para encuadernar documentos y se enteraron de que había escasez de material para imprimir el plástico necesario para fabricar las máscaras. Desde hace unos días estoy en contacto con distintos grupos de makers de la Comunidad de Madrid así como 15DíasPara (https://15diaspara.es/) -movimiento apoyado por la Sociedad Española de Medicina de Urgencias y Emergencias, la Sociedad Española de Geriatría y Gerontología, el Colegio Oficial de Psicólogos de Madrid - para ver cómo podemos aportar nuestro granito de arena. Estos grupos de voluntarios se están quedando sin los filamentos para imprimir el soporte de las máscaras, todas las tiendas donde se podrían adquirir los filamentos están cerradas y hay escasez de plástico en todo el mercado europeo. Stratasys, un fabricante israelí de impresoras 3D y de materiales para imprimir a escala industrial (son proveedores de Airbus, Seat, etc.) con el que colaboramos desde hace mucho tiempo nos podría hacer llegar el plástico compatible con las impresoras domésticas de los grupos de makers de Madrid en tan sólo dos días con un 50% de descuento. El reto que tenemos es alcanzar los 7000€ para poder fabricar unas 7.000 - 8.000 máscaras de protección dependiendo del modelo. Estas máscaras se pueden reutilizar y sirven de protección ante la falta de equipación sanitaria homologada. El pedido lo haría yo directamente y lo recibiría un grupo de voluntarios que se encargaría de distribuirlo a los makers que están fabricando las viseras en casa en la Comunidad de Madrid. Hi dear Selim's friends!As most of you already know, Selim had a serious accident while traveling in New Zealand. He will be staying at the hospital until his repatriation to France. The injury was to his spinal cord, so his actions are limited at this time. Due to the nature of his injury, he spends his days lying on his bed and trying to recover as much as he can.We really would like to bring him some joy and sun after this tragic event. So first of all we were hoping to gift him a Nintendo Switch and some cool games to help him have more entertaining days and a lighter mood to pull through this awful situation. Leur objectif est clair : permettre aux enfants de grandir "aimés et en sécurité et qu’ils soient plus tard acceptés comme membres à part entière de la société marocaine".Le but premier de notre initiative est d'améliorer le confort et le bien-être des enfants pris en charge par Atlas Kinder. Pour cela nous souhaitons aider la fondation à se fournir en énergie durable et renouvelable, plus précisément par le biais de panneaux solaires. Si de telles infrastructures sont déjà présentes sur le site, un manque d'information et de transparence limite leur exploitation. En effet, les batteries de ces panneaux solaires ne sont pas ou peu fonctionnelles pour une raison trouble.
